El Pastor - Paso Fino Horse Association Foundation Sire

National Foundation Sire and Hall of Fame horse, El Pastor is one of the most credited Paso Fino horses of all time. As a show horse and a sire, he made his mark like no other. El Pastor was purchased straight from quarantine by the Ratliff family. It was Henrietta and Robin who tamed this fiery young stallion and fine tuned his natural abilities. El Pastor’s accomplishments in the show ring are numerous including

• Grand National Champion – 2 times
• National Champion – 8 times
• Reserve National Champion – 7 times
• Horse of the Year
• Title of Proficiency

However, it may very well be El Pastor’s superb genetic makeup that has had the greatest influence on the Paso Fino community.

• The foals of El Pastor have won in EVERY single show division from Fino to Agility.
• A full 30% of his show children have won a first or second placement in a national championship show.
• Based on these figures, 21% of all his children were National Champions or Reserve National Champions.
• El Pastor sired 164 foals. Of those, 116 accrued show point credits.

El Pastor was selected to represent the Paso Fino breed as the model and prototype for the Breyer Paso Fino figure, “El Pastor, Famous Paso Fino”. His excellence was recognized in 1974 when he was named a National Foundation Sire and again in 2000 when he was accepted into the Hall of Fame

No other Paso Fino has the exquisite genetic history of El Pastor. Unfortunately, he died in February 2000 at the age of 37. However, his get and grandget are currently breeding and are producing excellent foals. Many of his daughters are residing and producing at Greener Pastures Ranch.
